The Hurling Thread

Agree with Knock. Ridiculous stuff. Show respect to opponents. Silly comment Rebel without a cause.
I respect Knockfiarna.
But the truth is that Limerick hurlers, for a 3-4 years, trended in tackling opponents heads.
Thats an actual fact.
To many instances to waive away as just a coincidence.
It looked premeditated due to the repetitive nature of these instanves.
And other teams started following suit with this tactic.
Thankfully, refs have started to clamp down on it to an extent over the past 2 years.

Very disappointed to read comment here saying limerick hurlers have been intentionally targeting players heads over last few years. Not getting involved in the cork thread as that's yere own but no player goes out to intentionally target anybodys head on a hurling field and I will stand up for our own hurlers in that regard .
Yeah I agree, it is an unfair comment. Kiely and Kinnerk has Limerick playing a high octane, physical game with the last 9 or 10 years. Similar to Barcelona in their prime, Limerick made it their game to swarm the opposition players in possession. While it doesn't look pretty as it creates spare arm tackles and rucks and hectic middle thirds, it proved effective for them. And yes, maybe the odd time, hard mistimed tackles went in but no different to other teams. But also, their swarm tactics created space for their full forward line to flourish and it also allows their dominant half back line sit back a little to protect the full back line. And it is also fair to say, Limerick were the most physical team in the championship by a distance from 2018 to 2022. Now teams have certainly caught up with them in the S&C and fitness stakes. By the way, I enjoy your fair contribution on here Knock, and you are right to defend such comments on the Hurling Thread.

Don't disagree with any of this.
Lots and lots to admire about the Limerick team.
But the head hitting is a fact. Not being disrespectful to Knock, just calling out what was blatantly obvious.
Remember, one of the first sessions held by John Kiely was in a boxing ring.
He paired off all the players for an actual 1 v 1 boxing match.

Absolute rubbish post, deluded if you actually believe what you wrote.

“We are doing no hurling in November, it’s all boxing,” outlined Limerick senior hurling manager John Kiely.

There has been head high tackles in the past few years from all teams including Cork.

Limerick play on the edge and hit hard without a doubt but to go out and say they target opponents with head high tackles and call it a ‘fact’ isn’t based in reality.
