The Hurling Thread

Kilkenny the jubilee team on Sunday. All eyes on what the GAA do with the DJ Carey situation.

Somewhat going under the radar is that Brian Cody and possibly James McGarry aren't going to show up. I see in the paper today it's saying that Cody had a foreign holiday planned but a colleague of mine from up those parts tells me the real reason he won't be there is because himself and Shefflin are still feuding with McGarry still sour at Shefflin as well.

Anyone hear similar?
🤔
Wasn't it McGarry's wife who sadly died so why the hassle between the three?

He won’t be there.. Wayne Sherlock wasn’t there last year.. no big deal any longer as they do it now straight after the Wheetabix in front of an empty stadium.. a shame really. Part of our wonderful culture and marvelous to see the jubilee team and recall the great things those players did.
Instead at half time we will hardly be able to think or talk and our heads will be blown off us by the likes of Killeigh and Damien Dempsey
What's the reasoning behind this decision?

More pints sold at half time?

McGarry was a selector with Cody when Shefflin took over Galway.
Despite all he did for them, there's a cohort in Kilkenny who will never forgive Shefflin for managing a rival team against them. Cody would very much be in that bracket and McGarry would appear to be as well.
Now maybe its all blown out of proportion and McGarry will show.

With that in mind imagine how David Herity is viewed up there these days.

Saw Cody on the TV for the KK Tipp game, thought he looked shook.

I know things were frosty between Cody and Shefflin when Shefflin took on Galway job. There was the infamous handshake controversy in 2022.
Not sure why McGarry would be part of any tension.
Very petty also makes little sense unless there was something else going on (it actually would have been in Kilkenny's interest to have Shefflin cut his teeth as an intercounty manager in a top county like Galway), tells you a lot about type of person Cody is.
