The Hurling Thread

The worrying thing for me is that the management in my opinion had a bad day at the office with regards substitutions during last years All Ireland final as well.

Now I know the red card for Barrett completely skewed that game for Clare in Ennis but I think any of us that followed Cork closely during the league raised our eyebrows when we saw Shane Kingston and young Duds Healy being introduced into a pig of a second half that day. We all know Kingston isn't suited to those kind of dogfights and I thought it was a bit unfair on Healy at 20 to be brought on at that time in that environment against the All Ireland champions for his championship debut.

I'd be hoping for much better judgement going forward from management. Flip side of that is that the subs need to be mentally prepared to come into these red hot cauldrons as well. For all my criticism of the management there really is nothing Pat Ryan or the lads on the line can do if Kingston fumbles a handy ball, Jack O C misses a sitter of a point or Ger Millerick pushes his man in the back etc. The lads are all serious hurlers they need to be clued in whether starting or not.
Great post Vlad as always. Let's just hope management continue to learn from their mistakes. No management team is perfect. Even Kiely and Kinnerk made mistakes against us last year.

Id expect a few Clare players to retire

Will Lohan stick around ?

Could be lean times ahead
Wouldn’t be sure of lean times- if they had a full panel this season they would be in the top 3 no question. And they are not dead yet - if the two Favourites win this weekend they will have a tie breaker with limerick.

No team could survive the injury list they had. I’d expect John Conlon to be the only retirement - although he’s such a freak athlete he may stay on. There’s plenty left in SOD and Kelly.

They have some great under 20 players coming too - Rynne and Jack O Neill are fine players along with Gunning and Hegarty.
