The Hurling Thread

John McGrath was unreal.
Tipp wouldn’t be an atheltic team but all good decent hurlers, John McGrath second goal was wonderful team play leading to it. Limerick are definitely there for the taking.

Tipp were never really a team of athletes over the years but always produce forwards like Eoin Kelly, Lar, Bubbles and Callanan who could make a ball talk.

The McGrath brothers are serious men altogether for their club Loughmore (hurling & football) and Tipp.

I tell ye something lads, If we divert our gaze away from Munster for 2 minutes.
It's an absolutely huge weekend in the leinster hurling championship.

What in the name of God is going on in Galway. They could be hard pressed to come out of Tullamore with a win on Saturday. If they lose then I reckon they're gone already. They capitulated against KK last weekend. Offaly should and probably will be wound up to 90. Could see them causing a shock here.

Dubs v Wexford has serious potential as well. I really rate O Ceallachain as a manager given the way he had Na Fianna hurling, discipline let Dubs down in the league but if he has that fixed I reckon they're good enough to make a Leinster final again. Not sure they have the quality to take down a Kilkenny or a top 3 Munster team but you never know. Wexford improvement over the last 2 months has been good to see. You'd worry what will happen to them if Chin gets injured or when he retires, awesome player.

Disappointing these 2 games aren't on national TV of a Saturday afternoon/evening. I think they'll be decent games. Hoping to slip away for an hour or 2 and get to watch at least one of them on GAA +

Spot on - I have my eye on it more than most living in the pale! The Dubs have no faith in their hurlers but I had been saying to them before a ball was pucked last week that they have a massive chance this year of a Leinster final, and possibly the win.. mostly because Leinster is a pancake of mediocrity! The win against Offaly has them lifting their heads a little

KK are not what they were, Dublin had them beaten last year only to panic in the last minute and concede a silly goal
Galway have a monster rebuild on their hands and nowhere near they level we associate them with
Wexford are going well under Rossiter, but it’s the classic blend of half a team of experienced genuine IC players, and half youngsters so they will really struggle for consistency. Great result one week, lose the next
Antrim will lose every game under the frenetic gimp
And Offaly are burgeoning under Johnny Kelly, but they are also limited by squad depth

I’ve seen the dubs a fair bit, they look fine against teams outside of the top tier as the play a running style of hurling that looks great when it works, but they cannot maintain it against better sides that wont give them a second, and don’t really have the answers then. if they went a bit more direct they would do far better IMO

If Galway lose to Offaly and I think Offaly have a good chance of beating them, I reckon they will lose to Wexford and Dublin as well. They should take the Leinster final out of Croke park, Portlaoise would more than hold the crowd
