The Hurling Thread

What in the name of God do you mean. This man has been saying this with years. Yes he was on board with Cody back the years but that doesn't prove that he was in agreement with him on these very issues. Mr Fogarty has been warning about the damage being done to the game since he became the National Hurling Development Manager.
Can you imagine the likes of Tony O Sullivan thriving in the present day hiatus of a game, with it's incessant wrap-arounds and, worse again, those godawful scrimmages.
🤔
No problem for someone from the Northside!😉

To be fair Fogarty is wearing a different hat these days working for croke Park and in fairness is correct in his assessment of the state and direction of hurling. But to suggest that he didn't agree with Cody and how kk played when he was a selector is just rubbish. He was foursquare behind it and cared only about winning by any means possible. He is in large part responsible for where hurling finds itself today. They opened a Pandora's box and now he wants to close it. Probably too late.

Slowhandm is spot in....it was fogarty himself who put in place the kk gameplan moreso than Cody and croke park went along with it. I'm not saying it was right or wrong but it has led to the rucks etc that are a stain on the game today.

Nail on the head. Have been of the same view for years. Its a large part of the reason why Cork have struggled the past 20 years. The game has become like rugby, and we being traditionally the county most adept with regard skill, speed, flair, as opposed to just picking a load of 17 stone gym bunny's to flake the shite out of the opposition.
As I've said many times on PROC. Referees are directly to blame, but GAA upper authorities and RTE the main root cause as they have been driving the game this way for a long time.
We have to go with the flow! The 2006 all Ireland was an example. Kilkenny stifled Cork’s running game and ultimately won easily enough. They dominated for a decade, followed by Limerick playing a similar game. We’re not going anywhere playing the fancy running game we’ve been focusing on. If we want to get back to winning all Ireland’s, we have to pick physically imposing players, and compete from there… the day of the Light, fast, skillful player is over! As regards Gaelic football we’ve fallen so far behind it’s difficult to know where to start, but Derry and Armagh also have achieved success by utilizing fit, physically imposing players and are on an upward trajectory!

Yes it's important to be big in today's game . Its always been an advantage. Hayes is bigger than Hegarty. He must be pushing 16 stone. He's massive. But to say there's no room fir the small fast ,flair player is wrong. Shur Graham Mulcahy is tiny, about 5'5 and 9 stone. Yeah it's true to say there's no place for the fella that doesn't want to fully engage physically and just wants to fluther around looking for loose ball and flashy scores. He's toast in the modern game . But even fellas like Seanie McGrath of Glen Rovers would survive if the work rate was there

Toughest Cork hurlers were southsiders. Gerald McCarthy, Tony Maher and Johnny Crowley come to mind. Tony Sull was fine for the era he performed in, and he was a superb striker of the ball. The game has changed, and now physicality, fitness and intensity are to the fore! Tom O’ Donoghue of SARS would still excel in today’s game!
🤔
True Rebels but you missed the gist of my post it seems! 😉
