The greatest Euro final ever?

This question came up recently as well in terms of the greatest Premiership games ever. All The Liverpool fans were calling for the Pool Newcastle games. They were great at the time but I think the Arsenal United clashes of late have been far better in terms of quality of football and rivalry.

Well in fairness the Highbury clash last season was a joy to watch. Two attacking sides and a bucketload of chances.

The Liverpool/United game hasn't produced a classic in years whereas Chelsea/Arsenal game surely produced a strong contender for worst match of the season?

Chelsea under Mourinho may be grinding out the results, but its cack to watch.

Certainly not in my book either. It's very blind to say that last year's final was the best in a competition that's been around 50 years. The best is probably the 61/62 win by Benfica, at the time considered the greatest team ever. They won their second European Cup in a row and defeated Madrid who practically owned the competition before that. Oh, and Eusebio was involved. One of the all time greats.

hate to be cynical but how do you know? did you see the game or have you simply read second hand about it? therefore are you just repeating what you read as you can't possible have had a first hand experience of it?

that stuff drives me nuts.

That's exactly my point. People calling last year's final the greatest ever can only compare it with about 10 or so other finals. For a 50 year old competition that's not exactly enlightened debate is it? How can someone say last year's final was the greatest ever? It's objective. Sorry if it was a bit too clever.
