The Gaelic Football Thread

Isn't Beara already having problems fielding minor and U21 teams?
According to schooldays.ie, the number of kids enrolled in the following primary schools in the Beara Peninsula is as follows:

Urhan NS: 21 (12 boys, 9 girls)

St Michael's Bere Island: 19 (8 boys, 11 girls)

Derrycreha NS: 32 (16 boys, 16 girls)

Castletownbere NS: 193 (113 boys, 80 girls)

Trafrask NS: 23 (11 boys, 12 girls)

Cappabue NS: 24 (11 boys, 13 girls)

Coomhola NS: 92 (44 boys, 48 girls)

Glengarriff NS: 68 (34 boys, 34 girls)

Eyeries NS: 70 (40 boys, 30 girls)

In total: 542 (289 boys, 253 girls)

Break that down and it averages out at 36 boys per year in the whole of the Beara Peninsula and 32 girls per year in Beara.

*If I'm leaving any school out, let me know and I'll add them in.

But it is greatly concerning that a big area's population is dropping, thankfully not to the level of South Kerry but still an area that needs to be looked at.

Eased planning permission, more allowance to work from home and transport connectivity and broadband would keep people in the area.

Incredible. It’s sad but it’s also the reason why I have so much optimism for the future of our own club.

We have approximately 80 u6s in Clon. Some say that’s too many but this isn’t like getting 80 kids in a city club or Douglas or Ballincollig - where most of the parents have to use google maps to find the pitch.

The majority of our kids come from die hard traditional GAA families, they’ve all been to senior games, run around in Clon jerseys and have been playing football at home since they could walk.

There is just no way any other club can compete with this. With future developments planned in Clon our population is rapidly increasing, the majority of whom are prosperous young Irish families.

Some will say I have red and green tinted glasses on here but our demographics combined with our tradition mean we are unlike any other club in the country - the only one that comes close is Dr Crokes.
