The Gaelic Football Thread

This is a football revolution, like I haven’t seen in my lifetime. The dour tactical game has been unwound (not before time) and over the next few years Gaelic football is going to evolve into the spectacular. Some bumps along the way no doubt but strong people are steering this ship. Some of the games I’ve seen are absolutely fantastic. Makes me feel like my normal January & February games in the McGrath cup up in Mallow were behind the iron curtain and we’ve been liberated!!

No, they'll be hating it!

It wont take long before someone starts to use the new rules in a way they were not intended, but they are under constant review and being tweaked regularly. Wherever it ends up will be significantly better than where it had got to one way or the other.

Does anyone have any clarity on the solo and go timing? 2 weeks ago we had a ref that was determined the player had plenty of time to decide, and could switch to a new player who could solo and go if they wanted if they had looked around and didn't fancy it. That seemed far too lenient.. fast forward to this weekend and the ref explaining you had 1 second to decide!

The overload created bringing the keeper forward for targeted runs is interesting as well, Dublin made good use of that last week.

I'm not sure the 1v1 throw up does anything worthwhile

the wording in the rules is "immediately" - no actually time limit, so really it will be down to the refs discretion

Heard an interview on radio some evening with Jim Gavin , to be fair he said that if something clearly isn't working they can tweek it or get rid of it. So he sounded fairly open to changing anything that needs looking at.

Could anyone explain in basic terms, when can't a goalkeeper get the ball now?

This explains it quite well I think.
