The Gaelic Football Thread

Crazy stuff, considering how important the leagues are in football to be bringing in a load of new rules at once with no real lead in but typical enough of the gaa at the moment whereby the intercounty championship is played off as quickly as possible like a street league.
I think the new rules in the main are positive but they should have for a final year at least allowed the pre season competitions
GPA have far too much clout atm. The whole intercounty schedule is farcical Where's the upside to all this nonsense. We're still running off club championships at the worst time of the year.

tuohy comes across as fierce bitter in that piece but none of what he said is untrue. you’d want to be some wanker to stop, or maybe dissuade is the word, a young fella from pursuing a professional sports career on the back of some parochial shit.

i played aussie rules for around ten years and really enjoyed it. got a trial for an irish international team for the euros but didn’t make it.

the aussie rules team i played with had six paddies as starters. we were only allowed two aussies on the field at any given time so they were delighted with us playing.
