The Gaelic Football Thread

Something has to be done - the provincial championships - apart from Ulster - are a farce.

Munster: Kerry win every year at a canter (ok, Cork surprise them one year in ten).

Leinster: no comment required

Connaught: They should scrap the preliminary rounds & just let Mayo & Galway play in the final.
Indeed Roscommon do cause an upset a lot more often than Cork but in general the whole thing is stale.

Players don’t want to be facing the same players and teams all the time either. I know there’s a sense of tradition to be upheld in the provincial championships but someone needs to be brave and move on from it. The Super 8’s that time were brilliant. Covid put a stop to that since but we need something similar to that but on a bigger scale.

What a horrible way of doing business. Last year's freak event apart, Keane had that Kerry team playing excellent football. Compare them with what Jack had Kildare playing and it's like chalk and cheese.

Some outrageous arrogance from them as well. They lost after extra time to the eventual all Ireland winners, two years after drawing the final with the best team of all time at their peak, and apparently that's ground for dumping the manager in one of the most humiliating ways you can go about it.

The actual quality of this Kerry side is being overblown based on minor victories which were never once backed up at U21/U20 level. And that with the Jack in charge and being out thought by Sean fucking Hayes.

Was listening to Andy Moran compare the current Kerry backline to the 00's version and it's eye opening. Do they have a single back on the level of either Ó Sé, Tom O'Sullivan or even Macho Man? Paudie Clifford is the closest thing at half forward they have to Galvin or Declan O'Sullivan which is a serious fall. O'Shea and in particular Clifford are generational talents which will win you minor All Ireland's but you need strength across the pitch to win at senior.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a fired up Kildare turn them over in the super 8s next year.

Excellent analysis, Jukka.

At the peak but a man down for half the game and Kerry hung on by their fingernails at the end. If anyone was gonna win that match at the end it was Dublin.

Keane may not have done a terrible job but he didn't do anything hugely great either. All hail the new king, hopefully same as the old king.
