The English Market appreciation thread

Bookies, mobile phones, vapes, “gourmet burgers,” casual dining, designer doughnuts, and the odd showroom for clothes you buy online, along with Penney's, and pubs for the manbun and student set, along with multiple megaphone equipped protesters arguing with each other in the midst of vacant eyed coked out zombies and winos.

No wonder there’s such a clamour for more “sustainable” transport links to Cork City Cemtre.

😉

Tbh the two multistories are nearly 30+ years both.

Both designed for cars that were a hell of a lot smaller. Look at the old Volvo estate its about the same dimensions as a modern fiesta.

Paul Street and Merchants Quay are incredibly tight for modern saloons, never mind getting your door pinged by clowns parked next to you.

Nail on the head.

The one across from the bus station is designed very badly. I've yellow paint on my bumper over the small spaces there

Hello Drucker

I was in the market today and when leaving I went down the once buzzing arcade which brings you to Pana.

Jesus it's grim. I took photos of the empty units, some of which have been empty for a very long time.

And what retailer would want to go into an arcade surrounded by empty units? It's a very hard fix for the council unless they start providing some serious incentives.

The problem is the council, a pack of clueless, soulless civil servants with no ideas or ambition.

If it were in private hands it would be hopping, look at the marina market, every time I go in I see something new, the place improves week on week.

The city council should not be running shopping arcades.

Do they own it?

It looks like it needs a makeover at the very least.

I've no idea tbh, the whole city center needs some radical rethinking but it isn't going to happen with the current crop in CCC.

For example a friend of mine was doing some work for the council earlier this year on a small very straight forward project, he said you would not believe how difficult it was to get decisions made on trivial things like colors they wanted walls painted etc took months and months with dozens of zoom calls to get simple answers.

Then it took him months to get paid after he fronted significant cash for materials etc. Never again would he work with them and he's not the only one.

If simple things like this take so much effort and nobody wants to make decisions how in gods name are important, necessary changes going to be implemented.

This lot are satisfied to do the minimum and our City rot.
