The definitive list of Cork sporting legends

Keane
Irwin
Sonia
JBM
Ring
Paul O'Donovan
Ray Cummins
Rena Buckley

To me, Sonia was the greatest. Was at the highest level - at a global stage - for a sustained period. Mightn't have quite got the Olympic gold (Szabo was juicing, we all know it) but she won countless titles and carried the hopes of a nation at some many C'ships & Olympics.

Let's not forget the formative influence of Lugh, father of the first great hurler Setanta. It got abit ugly later on with the sons transfer up North leading to the transfer rules we have today 👍

Bit of a controversial one but….

Anybody suggested Danno O’Mahoney from Ballydehob who was a professional wrestler in the states in the 1930’s.
He “won” the most senior professional wrestling title in the world at the time , the NWA heavyweight title and was a huge draw with crowds initially.

as long as we're doing hipster picks, Fanahan McSweeney from Castletownroche deserves a mention

Irish Record holder in the 200, and 400m voted Cajun athlete of the century after his stint in louisiana, was the one of first athletes to spot Black Sept during the Munich Games in 72

So good they named a whole a Club in Michelstown after him

I would also fire in Athony Horgan, a fella who maximised his talent to become munster all time top try scorer till Zeebs took it on.
