We were knocked out of the u21 football on the 1st sunday of 2025

4 days before Christmas very late, normally end of November/start of December from my memory?

nope plenty of u21 county finals played in December over the years

The new playing season has made things worse for this age group but theres not much difference in when the County final is played

Should we break the split season and play the Under 21 championships in the spring/early summer? Intercounty teams basically have the first 6 or 7 months of the year to themselves and shoves every club championship back to beyond July/August.

Maybe play the Under 21 football championship in an 8week block between February and April and the Under 21 hurling championship in an 8 week block between September and November?

Or else just start both Under 21 championships in September and try have them played off by November?

This playing deep into December is tough on players and devalues the competition.

The issue is adult managers won’t release the players , league games on from early March

That's certainly a problem but they can't have it all their own way, especially during the league.

I don’t see an issue with it going to this time of the year and I don’t see players complaining. Most of these lads will be off in different colleges and it’s a chance to meet back up with their club mates at the weekends and win or lose head out for a few drinks without the pressures of the adult championship season.

Only issue is the weather but the 4G pitches are helping.

Interesting as a neutral I've gone to a few and thought was always the end of November.
But then again it also would suggest why I haven't gone to one since before Covid, too close to Christmas

For the players the system is brilliant as it gives them certainty on foxtures, likewise from the clubs point of view. i wouldnt be changing it just to suit u21
