Not to take this off course, but parts of the City are going to see explosions in population in the next decade or two.

There's about 10,000 homes going to be built across both Ballyvolane and North of Blackpool. Will that just strengthen the Glen further, or is there a lease of life for Delany's?

Enormous numbers of houses are being built and planned in South Glanmire, Castletrasure, south of Ballincollig which could impact on a number of clubs. There's planning just gone in by O'Flynn for 1000 homes in the Maglin part of Ballincollig, which partly falls within Ballinora's catchment. The houses being built and planned (about 700) in Waterfall Road also fall into Ballinora's catchment.

The Docklands will have 20,000 people. Does that just fall into the Rockies lap? The Tivoli Docks will probably have about 15,000, what does that mean Mayfield, or even Dillons?

My point here is that rather seeing where things fall and let the biggest clubs get even bigger, the County Board should be all over this. There's a chance here for many of the small City clubs to regrow the way Ballypheane have started to, and there's clubs on the City fringe like Ballinora, Rochestown that could grow with much bigger numbers. And that's before you sit down and see the merit of new clubs.

What baffles me is how the Glen, Sars, Na P etc can all field 3/4/5 (and fair play to them for being able do so) adult teams whilst neighboring clubs can barely get 15 together for 1 team

Would a fella who is interested not want to play with a first team in a smaller club than play Junior C with a bigger club

if say they be more interested in playing with their own club maybe

I think a lot of the lads playing with 3rd and 4th teams are actually happy with that. Playing with a first team brings a level of expectation and commitment, which a lot of lads don't have or want to have.
Maybe train every second week, no repercussions for missing a session or a match.
No outside manager getting paid, giving you shit because you are going away traveling for 4 weeks in the summer.

Still part of the team, the community, the club, but doing it on your terms and enjoying it, and not letting it take over your life

Nail on the head big time there @Franno. Post of the year.

Yes, great response and exactly the reason why.

However as pointed out previously, big clubs can have up to 50 minors per year and the majority of them may give adult hurling a go but if they aren’t good enough for the first team they won’t be long packing it in completely.

While the smaller clubs do their utmost to hold on to players of any ability and cross their fingers that a few of the better lads don’t emigrate.

I completely agree with this too.

How many clubs would have 50 minors though? Sars, Ballincollig, Douglas, can’t think of many more.

I read about the O Callaghan cup game last week, The gate to the 4G pitch was locked until 10 mins before throw in
and while ref gave it as as one point win many present said it was a draw,
