longer id say, Redmonds had an underage section about 30 years ago but it didnt last, unfortunately neither did the club
It's a slippery slope...having their pitches so far away from their catchment areas makes things even more challenging.

Not to take this off course, but parts of the City are going to see explosions in population in the next decade or two.

There's about 10,000 homes going to be built across both Ballyvolane and North of Blackpool. Will that just strengthen the Glen further, or is there a lease of life for Delany's?

Enormous numbers of houses are being built and planned in South Glanmire, Castletrasure, south of Ballincollig which could impact on a number of clubs. There's planning just gone in by O'Flynn for 1000 homes in the Maglin part of Ballincollig, which partly falls within Ballinora's catchment. The houses being built and planned (about 700) in Waterfall Road also fall into Ballinora's catchment.

The Docklands will have 20,000 people. Does that just fall into the Rockies lap? The Tivoli Docks will probably have about 15,000, what does that mean Mayfield, or even Dillons?

My point here is that rather seeing where things fall and let the biggest clubs get even bigger, the County Board should be all over this. There's a chance here for many of the small City clubs to regrow the way Ballypheane have started to, and there's clubs on the City fringe like Ballinora, Rochestown that could grow with much bigger numbers. And that's before you sit down and see the merit of new clubs.

It’s going to be a huge talking point when all these new numbers arrive on the scene.
It could lead to new forces within the city Castleknock in Dublin came from no where to win a senior football championship it was based primarily on an underage numbers boost based on huge housing developments.

But a huge factor will be playing pitches.

These will have to be created to cater for the expansion in population and this obviously won’t be confined to gaa other sports will need facilities so some real joined up thinking is needed here.

I think there needs to be data gathered as to the underage numbers for all the clubs where these new developments are in their catchment areas. Then the majority of the potential children from these new developments should be playing with clubs with low underage numbers. For example, if there’s 100 boys from a new estate in Ballyvolane, 30 boys should be going to Mayfield, Dillons and Delaneys while 10 go to the Glen. Funding for adequate training equipment and coaching education should be provided for the small clubs as well to give them the best possible chance of bringing these players through to adult level. Saying that it would take a lot of research and I’m not entirely sure how it would be practically enforced either.

Quite a few of them won’t be playing for any GAA team if the Sciath na Scoil is anything to go by. Some of the Gaelscoileanna look like the 1981 Springboks. 🐶 😗
