The Ashes

Interesting little first session this morning. England could have had the lads 12/4 and sure enough it looks like they'll regret that Labuschange drop.

The poor auld Poms - get the Aussies to 12 for 3 and then Head, Labuschange and Green bang it on, 130-1 in the afternoon session and Head completes his ton in just 112 balls. This is supposed to be a bowler's track so I'm sure the English batters are going to feel thre pressure tomorrow.

Yet again the fresh Aussie player delivers - excellent man-management going on to rotate the squad the way they are doing and to have each newcomer play out of his skin.

Forecast is for more rain over the weekend so there's going to be a few twists yet.

England skittled out again but Australia have botched the start of their own innings. Advantage Australia but they need to get their act together to really turn the screw

It's getting ridiculous with the English batting - breaking 200 in an innings is an achievement for them on this tour. Decent defence there from Boland as night watchman - the Poms really targeted him. As you say Megelus, the Aussies need to get their act together. There's still three days left - no rush. Although this is a bowler's wicket for sure.

Meanwhile, a pair of spectacles for Warner - he can't be happy about that.

England didn't even bother settling in their first innings. They just rolled over.

Nathan Lyon looks more comfortable at bat than any England opener in any of the Tests. That's how shit their openers have been. One opening partnership in the 30s and 2 in the 20s the best they could muster. The run out for Rory Burns was an absolute jokeshop.

Great series for Lyon alright - he’s a real leader in that squad. You get a great view of his contribution in that Amazon series “The Test” - outstanding.

That’s the thing though - the Australian squad is full of leaders who are able to drive it on in the collected team. You see it in the Indian squad on their good days too. Outside of Stokes and Root, England are desperately short of leadership.

And batting.

Bowling hasn't been awful. They have had a few drubbing but have also put in some solid performances but the bats just kept wilting against the targets. In the entire series Root has never come in at 4 with England at 100 runs.

Himself and Malan had a few good sessions but that's really about it.
