The Ashes

England did compete well for one of the four days and maybe briefly threatened to do enough for a draw. A sure sign of a superior team and mentality is that they can take a wicket when they need to and Australia did that throughout the two English innings. Warner and Hazelwood are now doubtful for second test which starts on Thurs. Broad and/or Anderson will come in to the England team so the balance may tip. England cannot afford to lose so pressure is all on them.

Hazlewood defo out for Adelaide - they're not even sure he'll be right for "Boxing" Day. No word on who is coming in to replace him. They have to be careful they don't end up too dependent on Cummins - he's also carrying an injury.

Jesus, the Poms have to come out fighting on Thursday. Everyone saying the pink ball setup will level it up - I'm not really sure why they're saying that - surely Aus are no shrinking violets under lights?

England's test batting in 2021 is shocking - outside of Root, (and one or two efforts from Malan) they are playing shite - just can't seem to string two innings together. Root has scored 1052 runs more than any other England batsman this year. They have to start backing him up.

Wow, so still no sign of Broad and Leach stays on the team sheet. It’s a balls that this is on in the dead of night- every innings is a big one for England this weekend.

Root & Malan got England to 150-2 but then Oz took last 8 for 86 and are batting again, 17 overs left

This is slaughter. Aus move towards a 450+ lead tomorrow - they only have to add on 170 - then look to skittle the Poms for 2-0. I don't know how Joe Root does it - every time he comes in he has to nail at least 50 or 60+ and keep the third wicket alive with Malan. The two of them are all England have. Then Root has to even join the attck as the spin bowler. Plus he's the captain. Feck's sake, he's probably making the lunches for the team and washing their gear every night too. He is some cricketer - but surrounded by mediocrity.

Aus attack is going well without Hazelwood and Cummins - albeit against a soft batting side. Lyon bowled a stormer after lunch today and broke English hearts. He's real leader in that dressing room - you can see the way he operates in that Amazon documentary.

agree with all of this, England have played only two decent sessions both by Root/Malan partnership. btw this list shows what England are up against-just two of the best five test batting averages of all time https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/records/282910.html
That’s some list donY - even Gary Sobers doesn’t make the top 10. Labuschange technically gets in by the top but has had a very short run so far. Bradman’s numbers are eye-watering. Also, Tendulkar played 200 tests for India - onreal.
