The Action Plan for Housing.

@businessposthq

Dublin City Council has spent up to €150,000 more per home to build social housing compared to private developers, a new audit of development costs has revealed.

The review showed that the local authorities' costs to deliver one- and two-bedroom homes are between 11 per cent and 44 per cent higher than the private sector.

We have populist politicians in the Dail telling us that the State can simply build all these houses, much cheaper, better and quicker.

Private Developers work to a budget and construction timeline (the amount that they can borrow from a Bank etc to fund the works) while the public sector has an open cheque book of taxpayers cash and sure if they cannot get the houses finished this year sometime next year might do.

Yet another example of uselessness of the public service in this country.

The "Government must build all the houses" politicians are very quiet...........

For every 2 houses a Council can build a private developer can build 3.

Excellent speech recently from Verona Murphy about the ridiculous insistence on building unviable apartment blocks in the middle of a housing crisis.

This is the kind of stuff that wrecks my head. What'll we do in the middle of the biggest housing crisis in the history of the state? Let's carry out thousands of inspections and spook even more landlords who are now going to sell up.
No problem sorting out the dangerous ones but this is an unbelievably stupid thing to do at the moment.

Rubbish. Scumbag landlords need to be held accountable. Name and shame the c***s.

Just let people live in run down unsafe and unhealthy buildings just because the is a huge shortage of accommodation?

Who does that suit exactly?

Landlords who do not have their rental properties up to standard.

If you decide to sell up just because you were renting a sub-standard home and not even investing in maintaining/upgrading your property with grants available etc then you should not even be a landlord.

So because there's a homeless crisis just let landlords charge extortionate rents and have no inspections at all? Not like it's a shock to landlords that there are inspections. Any landlord that has a house up to scratch has nothing to worry about.

How's life in your Ivory Tower?
