As I said. Illegal immigrants are not entitled to social housing. Those seeking asylum here aren’t either unless their application for asylum is approved, they already go through a significant vetting process as part of this. Absolutely no need to duplicate the work.

It would if it was true. I don't think it's true though, certainly usedn't be the case but maybe there's been tightening up. New rules coming in to force across the EU today should further strengthen our defences against immigrants who shouldn't be here.

"Under the new rules, foreigners will be screened at EU borders for up to seven days before they are admitted. Asylum seekers from countries listed as “safe” by the EU or pose a “security threat” will go through faster asylum procedures of three months instead of six."


The unsuccessful asylum seekers that stay on are the bane of the system. They not alone take up large resources of this state, they make the lives of genuine asylum seekers worse by their being less resources to process them quickly, less moneys available to them, and generate resentment amongst the native population who wonder if so-and-so really should be here.

Deportations are happening though. And while asylum seekers are consuming state resources they are not taking up social housing.

If you’re not in this country legally you are not getting social housing.
In fact I’d make everyone applying for Social Housing have to turn up in person with photo ID and illegals would be instantly detained.

It is a bit mad alright that refugees can apply for social housing without even being Irish citizens. Once they do get refugee status most do work very hard and pay their way.

The bigger issue is when council houses end up accommodating additional asylum seekers ie family or friends...

I'm assuming from your post that the other language is Russian.


This is the same Russia that has been putting much of its resources into it's deplorable invasion of Ukraine. Trying to excuse the ongoing housing crisis in Ireland with what looks like a "Shur things are bad in Russia on the housing front too" after Russia being at war for four years, and Ireland, at peace, ranks 2nd of 192 in the IMF table and 4th of 187 in the World Bank rankings of GDP isn't really the win you might think it is.
