The Action Plan for Housing.

One day the government of this country is going to realise they need to build the fucking houses themselves. Like we did when we were dirt fucking poor

That day might not be until 2134 but it will come.

I'll cross post this in the Ukraine thread but it's worth watching the talk from the 43:44 minute mark for 3 mins, and the discussion centres on post war reconstruction, RDNA5 report (Ukraine Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment) by the World Bank, UN, European Commission and Govt of Ukraine where the cost is of the current estimate of $600bn, with Housing being the biggest requirement, followed by transport.

I'll put a marker here again.....if you believe we will be under pressure to hit unit targets here, just wait until this war ends and Ukraine reconstruction begins.

The problem being , say you create a state building body that trains and supports apprenticeships and tradespeople .
You are still left with the open market , everybody wants job security which a gov run building entity could provide but if the wages are not right any tradesman / brickie will just up sticks and wirk for a private builder who gives him or her a healthier wage at the end of each week.

Absolutely agree with you, but i wonder could they use subcontractors like the way the City Council do now on road works rather than their own crews

I don't care how they do it, but they will have to do it.

Pay building companies to do it, set up a company to do it, do half one way, half the other, whatever. But until they do this, it will remain the same (Unless some new technology comes along that drastically reduces the cost of building houses.).

Where is the land to build another Mahon, Togher or even go up market another Ballyphehane? If the land is there there will be multiple
objections, City centre living is the way to begin, Build upwards ,
There are a number of one and two bedroom units gone up on the old Lakelands pub site in Mahon.
It's a small enough space so as you said building upwards is the way to go.

While they include balconies that look great I'd be a bit worried if young children lived in them though.

Still, it would be a far better place to live than having to put up with pretentious Mrs Bucket types that live in Ballyphehane. 😉
