The Action Plan for Housing.

That’s exactly why the private only model isn’t working. €30k a day in labour for something as basic as a bus shelter, it’s the taxpayer being taken for a ride.
I am not a QS, but i doubt that means 1 guy was paid €30k a day.
Have you seen any building spec by the OPW ?
Are you aware how out of date a lot of their specs which they have a habit of cutting and pasting are?

Only going by whats been reported, but we do agree on one thing, the structure is broken.
Complete dependence on private contractors is exactly why costs keep climbing.

Well then rein in the private contractors. But thinking a fleet of tradesmen employed by councils and the state are going
to improve the delivery of housing is delusion of the highest order. They have no productive work ethic.

You keep ignoring tge fact that the country literally built thousands of homes, for decades, with dedicated production departments.
And that the removal of these departments led directly to the situation we currently face

No it was not that which caused the situation we have now.
That is Nama's creation , it was they that shut down a sector that was building 50k housing units back in the mid 00's

NAMA didn’t shut down building, the crash and bank collapse had already wiped out construction before NAMA even existed.

And fifteen years later we’re still dependent on private contractors, with high costs and not enough homes.

At some point you have to say enough is enough and try a different approach.

People talk about building large scale estates same as years ago, That is fine in theory , But many of the same people are objecting
on a regular basis,

Please let's not rewrite history.

Nama went around and literally shut down any construction/ development company that had debts above a certain amount

Whether you believe that or not, I could not care less, but that is a fact.

Yeah and building workers then went to work in other industries instead.
What's left are now at retirement age and are not being replaced.

I think I read that for every three we lose only one is replaced as it's so hard to find workers.

A lot of the polish lads have also returned home so we are banjaxed.

All well and good for politicians to engage in the blame game for their own benefit but when do we actually get around to addressing the situation.

It's an emergency, and everything should be thrown at it.
