Liked Bangkok, lot of povert though. Less so in Chaing Mai in the north, highlight is always the food, people and scenery out of Bangkok. Secluded areas of the Phi Phi Islands are heaven on earth, the rest are nice but full of Japanese tourists, swimming but wearing bunny nose masks and life jackets!!??!!

Anyone been to Bangkok for a few days? I know it's seedy and all that stuff but have been to various places around Asia and know what to expect in general, we are passing through heading further south and I've always wanted to see the place. Our accommodation is booked so just wondering what is worth getting to as 3 days wont get us everywhere and I hate trips where you spend the whole time chasing an itinerary, so a few highlights/must see type things is what I'm after like whether the water markets, the railway market and all that jazz are worth the trip out to them? There are night market tours but these things always make me feel like you are just getting driven around one massive scam, where they all take turns taking a few quid from you.. better off just making our own way there? The temples at Ayutthaya are about 1.5 hours drive each way but look amazing, and Wat Arun etc

The kids will be with us, they will be 12+13.
