It’s come up a lot as craic (I hope!) in the hurling threads but I thought it’s worth teasing out. Would it be better for the likes of JP McManus to pay his taxes here or does he do the country a better service with his philanthropic contributions?

He lives in Switzerland for longer each year than he lives here. It’s like claiming that Roy Keane should pay his taxes here because he’s Irish.. should he?

Took a look there , JPs probably swerved in the region of about 1.2billion in tax.

The gang tugging the forelock to whatever crumbs he throws about for shits and giggles have rocks in their head

For what it's worth I would be avoiding as much tax as I could in his position. By the same token Id give the philanthropist routine a skip as well. Its only bullshit

Does he not already do enough bringing in business and investment here?

Not that I know that much about him like.

His fallout with Ferguson over a horse led to United's decline so it did.

Had it not been for Ferguson's greed we would still be dominating the premier league had McManus not walked away.

Going off point I know so I'll STFU.

Kyle Hayes and his buddies might beg to differ.

Are you comparing like with like though - is Roy Keane going to have TFI purchase some railway line and a station for a couple of million euros so the Cork monorail will have a new station near the Irish Guide Dogs?
