Tax defaulters

Don't remember that but I doubt very much that the bank didn't keep a record of who physically opened an account. I've opened bank accounts in my kids names when they were born but I'm still on the records.

All you had to do was give them a name and address - it quite clearly didn’t have to be one’s own.

Big scandal in town 20 odd years ago when someone well known to the manager was lodging and withdrawing relatively large sums of money to an account that didn’t bear his name. TSB Pana if memory serves. Seems he had a number of accounts there

He wasn't the only leader of FF to be lodging funds to a partner's account. The champs son lodged a €5k donation from Owen O Callaghan to Mary's account. There was also a discrepancy between MM's evidence to the tribunal and that of O Callaghan's regarding donations to the former.
Wasn't that where he said it was just "resting" in the account ?

Edit : That might have been Father Ted 😂

Another cork case was Colm Maguire Solicitor who was assessed at 162k.
In both Montys and this case the Revenue said the tax has now been paid in full.
Why then publish the names.
Is there any forgiveness by the Revenue .?

Because if they didn’t publish names and punish people that would incentivise tax evasion.

‘Ah sure I’ll pay it now so’ is no excuse.

And closer to home

Under declaration of LPT is funny. A buddy of mine thinks he also just bought a brand newly built house very close to the Wilton for over €720,000 with 2 brand new 4x4s in the drive. Either the pub business is doing fantastically well or he has a very helpful bank manager !

Bertie Aherns settlement details the Revenue was never made public.
Is this a case of the Revenue not acting without fear or favour

350k would pinch no doubt but would make no significant dent in his net worth I can assure you.
