Was the question ever asked of any civil servant responsible for paying government ministers how Bertie was paid for the six years he claimed not to have a bank account?

I was always fascinated by that, if Bertie didn't operate a bank account between 87 and 93 as he stated, how come the tribunal couldn't find one to disprove him.

Back in those days there were plenty of people had bank accounts under false names. The legislation outlawing this didn't come in till the 2000s (remember when you could open a bank account for your niece or nephew as a Christening present) so Dirty Bertie could have had access to a myriad of Bank Accounts at that time - he was just cute enough not to have them in his own name so that Revenue or the Gardai or whoever wouldn't have known where to look or under what name.

Don't remember that but I doubt very much that the bank didn't keep a record of who physically opened an account. I've opened bank accounts in my kids names when they were born but I'm still on the records.

He wasn't the only leader of FF to be lodging funds to a partner's account. The champs son lodged a €5k donation from Owen O Callaghan to Mary's account. There was also a discrepancy between MM's evidence to the tribunal and that of O Callaghan's regarding donations to the former.
