And each time they have never tried any other avenue, and have been told by the solicitor of the person they are serving that they are happy to receive the summons on their behalf, and their client is happy to make an appointment to receive same if this is not acceptable.
I the latest case the person is no longer working there, they are out sick. The solicitor was told this and still went ahead, the third time doing so.
Fair enough, that sounds very unfair.

I would say that is very much not the norm. Most solicitors would be delighted if the person would collect the summons by appointment.

Why can’t the solicitor send it to the person’s home address?
 
It certainly seems unusual.

In general though, Solicitors aren't that invested in upsetting or provoking other parties to proceedings. Is it family law?
Correct in one.

I do concede that I've heard numerous similar stories about these solicitors, including lying in court about receiving correspondence that they both answered and raised in a responding affidavit 🙈
