Tbf, it is practically always last resort and when the person receiving it has been "acting the maggot" - pretending not to be home, not signing for registered mail, etc

Because it is designed to cause embarrassment and upset.
And each time they have never tried any other avenue, and have been told by the solicitor of the person they are serving that they are happy to receive the summons on their behalf, and their client is happy to make an appointment to receive same if this is not acceptable.
I the latest case the person is no longer working there, they are out sick. The solicitor was told this and still went ahead, the third time doing so.
