We dont want to bother. It's cheaper and easier to import labour. We seem to be slow in moving from measuring how hard people work and what "value" they bring to an organisation based on the hours they work rather than what they achieve or contribute.
Within the families, couples etc I work with, a common theme is how difficult it is to achieve a work/life balance from employers. My kids both have friends in Australia who say they have a great life in terms of being able to work hard but enjoy the benefits of that work.
As long as our youth has cheap education and opportunities abroad the voters won't rebel too much and the tradition of us exporting our young continues supplemented by importing cheaper labour from Asia.
