I'd say you're a hoot around Haloween and all
What do you do when there's a delivery for you or someone in your household? Do An Post phone ahead to make an appointment to see you or something?
Talk of being a prisoner in your own house - afraid to answer the door. If you can't stand your ground at your own front door then where can you stand your ground?
Bloke came trying to sell me what he said was a charity dog-calendar the other day. I answered the door, heard what he had to say, and politely but firmly said no thanks. And off he went. Simples
All our deliveries get left outside the front door.
As a matter of fact I don't think I've needed to answer the door to a delivery driver or postman since before covid.
I'm with Crank_y on this one.
It's not about being a "prisoner" in your own home or being "afraid" to answer the door.
A person's home is their own private space and a person can choose to be as private as they wish in it.
When a person comes onto your property uninvited to try and sell you something , you have ZERO obligation to them so you can either answer the door or you can ignore them, either is perfectly acceptable given they were not invited in the first place.
Halloween is a special circumstance, that aside, we have a video doorbell and if it's not an arranged appointment like someone coming to service the boiler or something then we just ignore them, as is our right.
We value or privacy, our solitude and our quiet time. "Fear" is not part of the equation.
Ignoring a salesman takes less effort than answering and giving them a "polite but firm no" so why bother wasting their time and yours by answering the door if you know you're not interested?
Unless you think you might be interested in what they are selling in which case fair enough.
We never are or never will be interested so there is never a need to answer.
