I’m really showing up my ignorance of farming here. I’d move back to the city in a heartbeat if I could afford it.

I was briefly seeing someone years ago but it never was serious. When she told me she was involved in Macra I knew we’d be totally incompatible!!

Haha, it wouldn't be for me either but I can completely understand why others want it. I couldn't stand the tittle-tattle bit of it all, they spent their days watching every other farming family around them noting any money spent, how they might have got it, if someone bought new machinery the place would nearly crumble while they all figured out how much it would have cost which most of the time was absolutely eye watering to be fair! Sons and daughters with the 'big job' in the city was another classic

But then when it came to harvesting etc the community all joined together and toured everyone farm with the collective machinery and got each other sorted so they wouldn't need to bring contractors in. The complexity of who could marry who was highly amusing, serious land/historical snobbery at play.. and then someone gets pregnant outside of marriage and the whole village has the material they were craving again, and off they go

Many a happy day I spent wandering around the ploughing with my buddies, shit up to our knees, in search of the guy with the bag full of illegal explosives.
You'd spot him, catch his eye, give him the knowing look and you'd all go behind one of the stalls.
He'd turn around and slowly start to unzip his.. BAG! (ffs lads keep it clean) and in front of you would lay a treasure trove of bangers, sparklers, cherry bombs, mini rockets, small fireworks and so on.
You'd hand over a fiver or tenner or whatever you had and he'd hand you an assortment of fun.

The countryside would be alive with the echo of random little explosions for the couple of weeks after.
Some craic.
It's a f*cking miracle no one blew their hand off come to think of it.

Ah you’ve got a point there in fairness and I was mostly ball hopping.

Genuine question though, why the need to miss school for it? Why not put it on in early August when the weather is better and the kids are off anyway?
