Stevie Wong.

I wouldn't say he's worth a slap.
Against random guys going into Gorby's fair enough but against somebody who actually knows how to fight he'd get his ass handed to him. He's probably "second Dan" in karate or some bollox like that but any street fighter will tell you that the only good thing about karate is that it'll keep you fit so you can run away.

Bouncers are not meant to be fighters. They overwhelm and restrain. Worst guys I ever worked with were assholes looking for a fight.
Look to the scum who worked Sidetracks to see what "Hardman" bouncers will do

Never worked with him but I've seen Stevie do his job very well, physically, on occasion. I've seen him talk down situations before the escalated and he was fantastic at getting drunk people to leave willingly (or not even come in).
If he said "Just not tonight" you knew you could come back tomorrow and
A: he would remember you
B: there would be no issue getting in.

I gave him awful shit, one night, when hammered and thinking that I was fucking hilarious. Enough that I went into town the next night to apologise to him. He would have been well within his rights to never let me into a premises he was working again. Simple apology was enough for the guy and, honestly, I got the line skip treatment from him afterwards because I had the decency to apologise.

Cork clubs, in the 2000s, would have been a much more enjoyable experience with more like him

God talk about memories. I remember Steve well. My husband worked with him on the doors many moons ago.
Lovely man, one of those who didn't need to be all bluff and bluster. He knew he had it if it was needed.
He was a master at not giving people the argument they were looking for.

Yep

That gobshite Niall who owned the place mistook me for someone else and told me I was banned permanently when I was only about 19/20 and heading out clubbing was important part of being with your buddies. I was in Dublin in college and only getting home once a month or whatever.

Stevie knew he was wrong, and any night Niall wasn't around he'd give me the wink and let me in no bother. Never had a second of hassle with Stevie and saw him deal with any amount of shit over the years

Of the highest order.

I know Steve extremely well. Not 'his work' related well. Personal friend well, or at least in terms of he was my ex husbands best buddy. Spent a lot of time for years. Even lived with us for a time.

I was genuinely fond of him but he was a man child. Very likeable one mind. He was best man at our wedding and during the photos he was very mean to me about something innocent that happened or that I said while organising the invitations prior to the day( Long story)
He was lucky I didn't burst into tears at my own wedding. Eejit! Lol

I forgave him somewhat. Sure he's just a bit clueless.

We lost contact after my Sons Confirmation ( he is God Father) because he sided with the other eejit, my ex husband over a decision I made about the Confirmation day. Again clueless. No real maturity imo .

His Partner whom I knew very well too passed away few years back. I didn't even know. I was very sad about that, she was a gem of a lady. I was very sad for him too.

Life is strange.

Maybe not, a guy with the same surname but different first name is named here in the same case.

For the record I don't think I've ever encountered this Stevie Wong fella, even though I used to go to Gorbys and some of the other places mentioned in the thread.

There's a Seamus Wong running a recording studio in Leicester. Not sure if he's related to Stevie.
