Stephen Kenny Reign

All because Didi Hamann wants to play 1-10 formation.

Yes Stephen Kenny needs to go.
Although he was and did try to do the right thing.

No reason we should be bus parking and looking for a Packie Bonner to Niall Quinnus to Robbie Keane scenario in 2023.

At least Stephen Kenny had a vested interest in Ireland winning. Big Sam or Steve Bruce won't give a tuppenny proverbial

Big Sam would give it his best shot on the basis it might get him another nice little earner in club football if it went well.

janne andersson just finished up with the swedish football team.

the swedes seem eager to get graham potter in as the new manager since he managed here before.

maybe janne could get the irish gig since he’s not too different from kenny in that all he’s basically ever known is his domestic league but is able to implement a modern football philosophy with a much more pragmatic approach.

although in saying that sweden were dog shit in this campaign and would be more than capable of beating us. it’ll be a daunting task for whoever takes over.

has kenny been completely ruled out for a renewal? you could see the fai go mental because of a lack of cash and let him have another crack at qualification.

as an aside, andersson is around 100k cheaper than kenny at their current salary from what i could find.

Yerrah it doesn't matter who gets the job as long as we don't make a total show of ourselves. That's the target working with the ashes of the FAI shitshow.

And that means not only no player development happened, but also fuck all coaching development.

All your left with now is choosing between a punch in the nose or a funt in the sack.

Irish soccer is a body ravaged by a long dose of cancer that only the most viscous chemo and radiotherapy can deal with, leaving the body with years of painful recovery.

That's how pathetic we are. Counting the (relatively speaking) pennies.
errah, ireland is in a complete vacuum of “we’re sports mad!” yet only really backing four sports, two of which are parochial, one of which is private school and the other is soccer.

sure, there’s golf trailing behind but what else? a brief F1 stint, breen a few years ago in WRC and the odd flash in the pan boxer or athlete.

the setup here in sweden is fairly class. lots of talent identified really early and the last two years of secondary school incorporate that into their school curriculum. probably what’s essentially done in rugby but here it could be anything from ice hockey, to soccer to shot putt.

it’s very hard to see where we can go with soccer. the english crutch clearly isn’t there anymore but why aren’t we farming lads out to germany, spain, italy and wherever if they can’t be nurtured in the LOI? clearly the LOI is going to need another 15 years to get where other national leagues are now and still will be behind.

it’s all very frustrating and there’s no fix only time and patience and most importantly coin and nobody has any of it unfortunately.

a complete shame and pity.

Rowing?
I think you are being unfair on the path way to international sports from a young age, especially in niche or non popular sports.
Golf pathway setup in Ireland is superb as is athletics and rowing, the universities are responsible for this as well.

they get involved pre university here. basically once you’ve done transition year you can tailor what’s essentially your leaving cert to revole around a sports discipline.

can’t say i know enough about golf or rowing. i can remember being in an athletics club and training was strides, a few stretches, and then separate into disciplines.

tbf, that was twenty years ago. not sure how much has changed since. going off on a tangent now.

long story short, you go to the equivalent of an AUL div 3 game here and there’s linesmen with flags and fourth officials to let subs on. my brother who’s still involved in AUL just laughed when i told him
this.

even here in malmö the version of night owls that i played in wouldn’t let “aul” level
play because everything was graded and you moved up and had a pathway. not sure how it is in cork anymore tbf.

Soz, I meant the universities get involved with bursaries and schlorships, they are well on their paths with respective organisation at this stage, development squads, national panels, high performance units.

It has moved on a lot, although America still seems an option for some of our golfers and athletes.

The way football is treated by the FAI is nothing short of a disgrace. They had it too easy for years with lads going to academies in the UK to develop but that avenue is virtually closed now unless you are exceptional because academies in the UK now bringing in young players from all over the world.
