Speed Limits

I got that lecture last night already, so your pedantry isn't a worry for me.

Carrying out insurance, drink driving, motor tax checkpoints. They don't need to be stuck on the side of road pointing a speed gun for hours at a time. Do ordinary police, ones not in GNRPB carry out speed checks? Are you saying that the GNRPB see a crime outside of road policing that they do nothing?
I remember a garda from the station, when it was open in Rathduff regularly doing speed checkpoints and he wasn't in any Roads policing crew.

No idea if GoSafe are making a profit, assume they are as they have tendered again for the contract. There was a link posted a few pages back that the Government have lost 7 million as the fines issued aren't covering the amount paid to gosafe.

You asked the question, he had answered it already
I have no reason to doubt him, do you?
Fella do you know what the purpose of the Roads Policing Unit is at all?
Do you actually live in Ireland?

A few checkpoints I've come across actually do it all, you'll have one guard who has the gun or the new binoculars which will take cars for whatever distance and as a car rolls up they will check the insurance and do random drink and drugs testing. Again this is something I've physically come across and is done by the RPU.
A lot of the new vehicles attached to the RPU have built in ANPR and can show speed (not sure does it stand up in court)

Again shows your lack of knowledge on Garda and their role and purpose. Not every station gets and RPU, there is divisional RPU's. Such as Cork City (based in Ballincollig) West Cork Division and so on.
Each station recently due to a drop in numbers of the RPU, each shift was required to do 30 mins of Roads Policing, but before that requirement the Sgt or Inspector could request that the rank and file do traffic checks.

GoSafe are 100% making a profit otherwise they wouldn't be running, and that's just simple business. Ya the link was from years and no longer credible, but if the case is the Government lost 7 million then why are they lowering speed limits? It would suggest speeding isn't an issue.

I do doubt him as the fella literally posted ''shooting fish in a barrel''

Okay fella. I will leave it there
You carry on with your opinion as I will carry on with mine.

The crowd behind the GoSafe vans get paid regardless. They don't get 'extra' for catching more motorists afaik.
The fines they raise go back to the state. Again there don't seem to be performance bonus and the like.

So, yea, we can conclude that this isn't a profit driven measure.
The link may be old, buts its still credible given that we have nothing to contradict the fact that the State lost money on these GoSafe Vans.

Your last point is bizarre.
Reducing speed limits indicates that speeding is not an issue? What kind of weird logic is that?
Maybe we should allow people to drink MORE as it seems drink diving is not an issue!?

Justice Minister McEntee confirmed late 2023 that there are no quotas that GoSafe have to meet under their contract.

No problem with opinions.
But facts are facts, you're presenting an opinion (which you're entitled to no problem at all there) but your opinions lack substance and facts.

Granted yes I was smart asking if you actually lived in Ireland so apologise for that but all my other points were to inform you and other people what really happens.

I never said there was a quota or they get extra.
As we're all aware their primary area is accident black spots and areas of serious speed collisions.
We can name several areas that do not fit this criteria and as I've stated I'd rather the vans go to their primary areas where they will save lives rather than in places that are 100% for revenue.

My last point is tongue and cheek Jank, that was all, that is why it's bizarre
