In terms of smart functions no probably not. When it comes to TVs the considerations from a buyer's point of view are size, resolution, design etc.. Not "smartability".
All new TVs now are "smart" and most probably have built in apps but it rarely includes anything more useful than Netflix and YouTube (which don't get me wrong are incredibly useful to have as it avoids the need to cast from your phone which can sometimes be iffy depending on your internet).
The whole point of an android box is most likely to run apps like Kodi, Showbox, Mobdro etc etc etc.. for illegal content, none of which you can install and use directly on your tv anyway.

So with the availablity, cheap cost and user friendly-ness of Android boxes, Raspberry Pi's and even the likes of Chromecasts and Firesticks, the smart capabilities of a TV are in my opinion never really the the factors on which to buy a TV.

Concentrate on the resolution and the size as they are the two things you can't change afterwards but are the factors that will give you the most joy from your TV. You have all the products listed above and more to change your smart needs as needed.

I got a new Samsung TV over the weekend, UHD, it has those features as you mentioned.
What's the advantage in me connecting my Samsung G7 to the TV ?

Always get the most up to date tech you can afford when buying a TV. You might not need it now but who knows what we’ll be looking at next year

Thanks for the advice, lads.

I suppose I'm kinda snookered cos there was a time when you could buy a non smart TV for considerably cheaper then just buy an android box for €50.

However most tvs are smart now so it's harder to save a buck
