Sinn Fein are not a Normal Political Party

Achieved civil rights.
Civil rights in Northern Ireland were primarily achieved through a grassroots movement in the late 1960s, driven by the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association (NICRA) and allied groups like People's Democracy . The movement successfully pressured the government to end systemic discrimination against Catholics in voting, housing, and employment.

Main Achievements:

By 1969–1972, the movement achieved its key demands:

One Man, One Vote: Ending of property qualifications for local government elections.

Housing Allocation: Introduction of a points system based on need.

Local Government Reform: Dismantling of gerrymandered council boundaries.

Police/Security Reform: The disbandment of the B-Specials and disarming of the RUC.

Ending of the Special Powers Act: The abolition of internment without trial.

The age old question of constitutional v militant means, the fact is without the threat of violence the British would not have been brought to the negotiating table.

It is interesting when it comes to big powers they can have large armies to defend themselves or attack countries but when you have an organisation like the IRA or Hezbollah which protects communities from police violence they get portrayed in a negative light.

The US military destroyed & killed a girls school every bit as bad as what the terrorists did, yet somehow because they dress in military combat uniforms they are somehow better.

Fuck that.

Any update on how the public meeting to object to the rezoning of land for 700 new houses in Togher went this evening?
Didn’t hear a word about it tbh. Can you point out where SF organised objections because on the face of how your presenting it it certainly doesn’t sound good
