Shay Given's Retirement

Football Association of Ireland (Official)
2 minutes ago.BREAKING NEWS: Shay Given has just announced his international retirement. Speaking today Shay said, 'This has been an extremely difficult decision for me to make. I have dedicated 16 years of my life to my country, and I have a great affin...ity with Giovanni Trapattoni’s squad. I’d like to thank the manager for his support during my time with the team. I will continue to be Ireland’s biggest fan, and wish the lads well as they embark upon their new campaign.’

Thank You for your Years of Service Shay

Good luck Shay, great servant who owes us nothing. Consistently one of the top 10 keepers in English soccer for nearly two decades, no mean achievement even though his move to city and the euros were big disappointments for him. Deserved better on both occasions but that's sport.

Wish him all the best for his future happiness but not until after Sunday week, which I hope will be a bitter disappointment for all Donegal folk!

You'd find it hard to find a fella that loved playing for his country more

A sad day for Irish soccer, he had another 2 campaigns in him and if we ever have another keeper as good we will be blessed

balls, twas to be expected I suppose! he owes the fans nothing, showed up whenever he was available!
Westwood has his chance now.
