Sex Pistols "Never Mind the Bollocks" Doc on Amazon Prime

Watched this last night - it was a lot better than I thought it would be. All the band and McLaren participated (in separate locations obviously) but there were excellent contributions from the sound engineers and producers too - great background on how they laid down the tracks.

For once, the quality of the music took centre stage - rather than the shock value. Jones' guitar, Lydon's lyrics and delivery, and Glen Matlock's songwriting finally get the credit they deserve. Interestingly too, they all admitted in their own way, that while they hated each other, they were a formidable unit together, way bigger than the sum of their parts. You hear so many great bands saying that.

At one stage, the engineer isolates Jones' guitar on "Anarchy in the UK" and it's spellbinding - also the way he under-octaved the bass on "God Save the Queen", and like the engineer says, tight as f**k. Then later, they isolate Lydon's vocal and play it through the desk - and it's absolutely riveting, real menacing genius reaching out across nearly 50 years to put it up to any modern vocalist.

They resisted the temptation to pad it out as well - just 1hr 9 minutes with every contribution relevant. Brett Morgen take note.

Great album.

Is it the documentary from the "Classic Albums" series?

That series is great - real economical with their time. Focused on the music and a bit about the band at the time of recording - no 30 minute back story.

If it's the one I'm thinking of - engineer/producer Bill Price (looks like an tame accountant - worked with Sex Pistols, The Clash, Nilsson, Jesus & Mary Chain, GN'R) talks about Steve Jones, his tone, playing energy and accuracy with a guitar pick, followed by Jones addressing the rumour that Chris Spedding had played all the guitar parts with a "Yeah... cheers, Chris" and a grin. :lol!::lol!::lol!:
