Seamas Culleton

The conditions he is been held in are said to be horrific but on the bigger picture has he a leg to stand on?
Is it a case of the rules been enforced?

While I hate what the US is up to and what ICE are doing, I also get annoyed that we think that the "undocumented Irish" are different to any other illegal immigrant in the US.

Call a spade a spade like. We have our own immigration problems that many of us are now vocal about, so we can't be throwing stones in glass houses

Someone being detained for 5 months? That would be story no matter where it happened.

It's only a story if someone finds out about it. If RTE hadn't reported this he'd still be in jail without any of us knowing. The government certainly weren't in any rush to investigate his case.

God knows how many more are sitting in a similar position. I'd imagine a few more than the four or five McEntee says she's aware of

He is documented though. He has a work permit and is in the process of a green card application

it appears the issue is is was illegal at one point.

Similar to the irish granny who had a few bounced cheques 10 years ago but has been in the US since she was 11 but she was also documented.

There have been 65 deportations from the is to Ireland last year. nobody, except perhaps the people themselves is cribbing about it

They could have deported him by now. I don't care that he won't sign anything, they could very easily have put him on a plane and waved goodbye.

Instead they choose to do this. It's inhumane, no matter where it happened.

What Paddy should get preferential treatment?

The food wasn't great. Maybe he should have considered going home.

Ist cousin of mine was deported from US 25 years ago, she was just turned around at the airport after trying to get back in after returning home for a while.
Just heard there on red fm that he had 25 years to make himself legal and just refused to deport when asked . Why didn't he just legalise himself ? The media as usual comparing things to 1930s Germany due to the the derangement syndrome which is rampant throughout the industry.
Go away and get the correct paperwork and stay out of trouble and you're fine. When I was backpacking in Australia 30 years ago ,I needed everything in order before I went , money in bank , visa , the lot. If you were caught in any trouble you were fucked out straight away, simple as . This is what we need here.
