people like that are low-lives.
It's disgusting etiquette.
It's just trying to imply they're superior to other people. Like these cunts that join Mensa.

Bit harsh referring to them as low-lives (sic)

Too far up themselves certainly, and one or two of them I wouldn't even send to the shops. But in many cases they've paid enough money for the University to bestow a PhD on them so if they want to refer to themselves as Dr they're entitled to.
The brighter ones tend to let their expertise do the talking rather than shoving Doctor titles down peoples' throats

Getting a PhD takes more than just paying money to a university. It is a significant body of work to undertake.

I think you're very wrong there. I happen to encounter people on a daily basis who refer to themselves, and are frequently referred to by others as "Doctor" and none of them are medical people, though they do have doctorates in various disciplines.
You must work with a right bunch of tossers. Which would make sense, in fairness.

Edit: Sorry @Yermon , I thought I was replying to the other eejit

The significance and size of the body of work undertaken can vary dramatically I'm afraid. And as non-EU students have to pay a lot more the percentage of non-EU under and post-grads has exploded. Not necessarily a bad thing of itself but when English isn't your first language quite an amount can slip through the cracks in both directions

Irish Universities, especially under the IUA, have to a degree (pardon the pun) become education factories where latterly more emphasis seems to have been put on throughput than on quality.

It's like me completing a phd in Philosophy and going around calling myself a doctor.

She has no medical training yet presents herself as one.
Psychology is just something you'd do in Arts in UCC and it's completely dubious what they teach you. It's junk science really.
ALL PhDs are doctors in philosophy- no matter the discipline.

It’s what PhD means.

just sayin’
