Together with my wife, we decided to move to Crimea in 2015. We loved the sea, the warm climate, the cheap fruit, and the sandy beaches. The beginning was romantic. We spent a long time looking for an apartment and chose a three-room one near Yalta for 8 million. The Yalta administration sold it as ownerless. The question immediately arises: how did an ownerless apartment appear near Yalta? It needed a major overhaul because the previous owners, fleeing Crimea, smashed the walls and took the furniture. No matter—we'll manage.
Having 25 years [of marriage] and being happy with two kids and a mother-in-law, we moved to Crimea. Today we live like in hell. It's been two years now. They cut the power for 2–3 hours a day. Water only at night; it doesn't reach the fifth floor. At night we have to carry water from the basement to the bathtub just to cook and use the toilet. Drones and missiles fly overhead, and spiteful neighbors smile spitefully and curse.
We decided to look for a buyer for the apartment to go back to Chita or Ulan-Ude. But no one even wants to look at it for 500 thousand. What to do—I don't know. The kids' childhood is over. The mess with Crimea destroyed our lives and turned us into paupers. The mother-in-law keeps arguing and threatens to jump off a bridge because she doesn't want to live like this anymore. And my wife has let herself go and started drinking godlessly. In 2014 Putin shouted 'Crimea is ours,' and I think soon we'll be the ones coming to an end.
