Ukraine hits Russia's largest oil refinery around 2,500km away
Russia's largest oil refinery has been targeted in a Ukrainian military strike, despite lying more than 2,500km from the Ukrainian border.
The strike earlier today sparked a fire at the Omsk refinery, but the extent of the damage was still being clarified, the Ukrainian military's General Staff said on Telegram.
Russian air defence forces were repelling an attack by several drones that reached Omsk's northern industrial hub, Russia's Interfax news agency reported, quoting regional governor Vitaly Khotsenko.
The facility is located near Russia's border with northern Kazakhstan, and closer to Mongolia and China than Ukraine.
It comes after Kyiv's forces carried out attacks on several major oil and military facilities across Russia and Russian-occupied Crimea (see 10:57 post).
