Well russia interefered in the recent Georgian, Moldovan and Romanian elections. Vote-buying and covert funding, disinformation campaigns, influence operations by the Orthodox Church, cyberattacks, social media manipulation on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram using fake accounts and bot networks...they've done it all.

It would be foolish to think they won't try the same in Hungary. I'd say it's pretty much guaranteed as Orban knows he's screwed.

Oh we know about all that stuff, that's been established.

I mean voting shenanigans, stuffing ballot boxes, missing votes, etc.
 
It goes without saying. Orban knows that if he loses he’s going to be doing some jail time for corruption or moving to Moscow to live in the same apartment building as Bashar al-Assad.

8/04/2026, Budapest (PAP) - US Vice President JD visiting Hungary Vance said on Wednesday that European leaders are not doing enough to end Russia's war with Ukraine. The politician also described alleged threats by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as "scandalous."
The US vice president arrived in Budapest on Tuesday for a two-day visit, during which he supported Prime Minister Orban, who is running for re-election. On Tuesday, he attended a press conference with him and then delivered a speech at a rally of his supporters held in the center of the Hungarian capital.
On Wednesday, he participated in a discussion organized by the government-affiliated Maciej Korwin College (Mathias Corvinus Collegium) in Budapest.

"We are disappointed with many European leaders because they don't seem particularly interested in resolving specific conflicts", Vance said, referring to the war in Ukraine. He stressed that although President Donald Trump's administration "loves Europe very much", the US is disappointed with the approach of some of its politicians to the war.

" Although there are countries in Europe with larger economies and populations than Hungary, few political centers have contributed to resolving the Russia-Ukraine war to the same extent as Viktor Orban", Vance said.

The American vice president noted that the Hungarian prime minister "personally participated in discussions in which he presented the positions of both Ukraine and Russia, emphasizing that understanding the perspectives of both sides is essential for peace".

The politician also commented on the statement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who suggested that he could give Orban's address to Ukrainian army soldiers. He admitted that he was not aware of these words and only Prime Minister Orban told him about them on Tuesday. He added that he could not believe that the Ukrainian leader "said something like that", he checked the statement himself and found it "scandalous".

Vance also commented on the U.S.-Israel war with Iran, saying President Trump is "impatient" in seeking to end it. He believed that maintaining the ceasefire agreement announced last night was possible if Iran conducted sincere negotiations. However, he warned that while some Iranian officials were approaching the talks constructively, others were not. He described the situation as a "fragile truce".

Speaking about Sunday's parliamentary elections in Hungary, he expressed his belief that "some people consider it a foreign influence that the Vice President of the United States visits Hungary and says that Viktor Orban is doing a good job and serving the cause of peace." In turn, he added, some people do not consider it foreign influence that the European Union is threatening to withhold billions of euros for Hungary due to border protection or the closure of pipelines through Ukraine, which - according to Vance - also creates difficulties for the Hungarian nation and serves to influence the election result.

At the end of his speech at Tuesday's rally, Vice President Vance said: "Friends, go to the polls on Sunday and stand with Orban as he stands with yours." Earlier in the day, he accused "Brussels bureaucrats" of interfering in the elections.
