We should be thanking Trump.
He's highlighted Europe's inadequacies to protect its Eastern boarders from an existentialist threat.
Time for Europe to up its game, fund and arm Ukraine, and give it the means to arm itself.
USA is no longer a real ally, we are on our own. Time to act accordingly.

In fairness, most countries next to or near Russia have been pumping money into defence and their military since the invasion. Long before that orange cu*t returned to office. Germany, France and even Spain have also upped their game militarily.

Totally agree with you on Europe arming Ukraine. The European countries that can, need to send as much military hardware as possible. And other countries like ourselves need to contribute to that effort financially. Also, in Ireland, at the very least, we need half decent military technology that can better track hostile forces like Russia that are loitering in or around our territory.

We'll see what happens over the next few weeks. But Pete Hegseth already looks like a clown, by coming out and saying Ukraine can't expect to have all it's territory back in any agreement. You don't say something like that before you start negotiations. The Russians must be laughing their asses off.
But unfortunately, it does look like the Republicans and all the people who voted for maga are about to shame their forefathers, who fought and died to help liberate Europe from tyranny.

I have no idea what a peace deal with mean for either country but unless they speak to each other, nothing will happen. If both partys are happy a deal will get signed.

AFAIK Ua has already accepted that it cannot reclaim territory.

Putin can't sell a deal where Ua joins NATO.


US is no longer a reliable partner for Europe. We have to accept this.

Ua needs a very strong military presence by Poland, UK and France. Then it needs to rebuild its military and strengthen defence lines.

This biggest issue IMO is whether sanctions will be removed.

If so then the free world is rewarding illegal imperialism. This would be a very bad outcome

I expect Europe and NATO to insist on sanctions continuing.
