Public services are not run on a for profit basis. I don’t avail of a medical card or social housing but my taxes go towards funding these services for those who do. We don’t get to pick what public services should be funded just because we don’t personally consume them ourselves.

Why is broadcasting a public service? Even if it is a public service then it can be provided through private means. C103, Red FM , etc are broadcasters and private enterprises to boot. You are finding excuses to give the likes of Kielty, Lee, O'Callaghan large paydays.

Our system isn’t perfect but it’s a damn sight better than the US. RTÉ and the BBC have many faults but they should be cherished.

They are prime examples of what's wrong with commercial radio stations, the need to make a profit leads them to play the same rubbish music over and over because they stick to a strict formula which they won't dare to deviate from, there's no space on their schedule for anything remotely intelligent or eclectic, it's bizarre that you have this obsession with us having a publicly owned broadcaster, twitter and gript.ie have really done a number on you.
