They've not got their house in order.

The taxpayer should no longer be on the hook for this shambles of an operation. Bakhurst incapable of operating to a budget. Little better than sicknote Forbes.
If it cant fund itself then we shouldnt be propping up their increased spending.

Just privatise it. Would bring a few bob in for the Exchequer (probably not too much as its prospects are not great). It could even involve stipulations around remaining free-to-air, a requirement to provide a balanced coverage of current affairs, and a commitment to keep George Lee off-screen..

Why would a private company buy a loss-making broadcaster, inherit all the public service obligations, and rely mainly on advertising revenue to make it work?

Giving that chap a three-year contract to front the LLS suggests the mandarins in RTE are playing it so safe. I read an interview with Brendan Balfe, a master broadcaster and a great voice, last week and he said he never listens to Radio One anymore, its content is so poor.

Public services are not run on a for profit basis. I don’t avail of a medical card or social housing but my taxes go towards funding these services for those who do. We don’t get to pick what public services should be funded just because we don’t personally consume them ourselves.
