Seeing as it only began in February and stock without the logos was still in circulation for a while after I’d say his maths are a bit off.

I've seen that happen a load of times. Reject, put it back in; Reject, put it back in; Reject, put it back in; Accept. As you say, it's like a built in feature or else the criteria for rejection are two tightly stipulated that a slight rotation of the bottle is the difference between acceptance and rejection.
