SuperMan: The good, the bad and the ugly

The Good : The casting for the most part is spot on. David Cornswet looks like your traditional superman. Holt plays a blinder as Lex luthor and Rachel Brosnahan is a superb Lois Lane. Its looks good for the most part, the cgi, the flying etc are all consistent, to the point where you would think that they got value for money out of there $245m odd budget. The Justice friends are all fine, Hawkgirl not getting much to do but Mr. Terrific was certainly the standout and Krypto the dog adds moments when the plot needs him.

I thought the inter dimensional prison was a great plot device, a pure evil genius type scenario. And the scene where Lex executes yer man was exceptionally dark but I felt that this is where the film peaked.

The Bad : Ugh where to start. The film starts right bang in the middle of another movie. While I can appreciate that there is no origin story part as this has been covered ad nauseum and you would want to be living under a rock to not know where he came from etc, you get the sense that there was supposed to be another movie before this.

Superman is portrayed as a naive boy scout type character, which I get for the most part, as this is how he was in the comics. But he was written as being stupid, just utterly dumb and this is most evident in the interview scene he does with Lois. He has zero awareness of the implications of his acts on the world. But it all became apparent when they introduced Ma and Pa Kent both played as simple yocal farmers, while again I get it, but it was just off.

The Ugly : When he was saving that baby in the river, there was a bang of the Flash off of it. Lois flying Mr Terrifics "plane". Lex shouting the fight commands. Saving the squirrel. The massive rift opening cutting metropolis in half. Essentially the entire last act. James Gunns guff is plastered all over it, the colour pallete, the writing and the humor. The crowd I was with laughed twice, once at the Peacekeeper caomeo and when Green Lantern was fighting the other thing in the background. In fact why would you ever live in Metropolis when it gets wrecked on a daily basis.

There is lots lots more. If I was a 12 year old boy I would have thought it was class for sure. And if you liked GotG 3 then you should like this as well.

I miss Cavill though.
