Sinners 7.5/10

Rocky double impacts this dusk till dawn remake about 2 gangster soldiers who return to their hometown to set up a juke joint.

Drenched in all aspects of black culture, Jordan exudes coolness in Ryan Couglers ode to their history, racism, slavery and music.

But at its heart its the music that is played front and centre with an absolutely cracking sound track. There is a rendition of the Rocky Road to Dublin that left goosebumps on my arm.

By the end though I couldn't help but wonder if this was a prequel to Blade.

Worth a trip to the cinema
This definitely deserves a second viewing, so many little nuggets to catch. The Irish aspect is just so cool with real history woven into it. That ending is just class as well.

8/10

Greyhound (2020)

Standard Tom Hanks fare about a ship defending a convoy of supply ships crossing the Atlantic while the Uboats line up to sink them. Claustrophobic, gloomy and colourless, but exciting and action-filled.

6.5/10

The Innocents (2021)

A Norwegian film about a group of kids who develop dark powers without the adults in their family knowing. There was an undercurrent of cruelty to their behaviour and a typical Nordic coldness to their characters. Not a horror film as such but I couldn't/didn't want to finish it. Brilliant child actors, but disturbing. I couldn't grade it after only watching less than 30 mins.

Top review.
