It was an exhausting but amazing night. Thanks for coming in, I didn't know you were there.
Blown away by the insane generosity of people.
There were people donating money left right and centre. My mum and her friend sold a few hundred euro worth of raffle tickets alone.
I wasn't sure how the auction at the end would go but it was amazing.
The Pico Lopes jersey went for €310 in the end following a bit of a bidding war.
Liam who owns the Hyde Out bought the signed Cork City jersey for the pub. There were a few younger lads who really wanted it and were really stretching their budgets, you could hear the girlfriends say "ah it's nearly payday like", but then Liam came in with an offer of €130 and that was them out.
The David/Paudie Clifford signed Kerry jersey was bought for €100 by a Cork man who said he only bought it because he was afraid it wouldn't have a buyer. There was a man from Glenflesk there who said he'd have loved it, and ended up buying it off yer man for €150 - the extra €50 went to Marymount.
Then the Cork GAA jersey signed by the Glen Lads... Horgan, the Downeys, Mullins.
That was the first jersey up and wasn't selling at all. Until a man said I'll give you €100. I asked was he sure, and he said "my wife died in Marymount five years ago", and he handed me €100 in cash.
Later in the evening, one of the young lads who had missed out on the Cork City jersey asked could I help him with something.
The man who had bought the GAA jersey wanted to sell it to him for the €100 he paid. So the young lad revoluted me €100 and I gave him €100 in cash so he could buy the jersey off yer man. Once the original buyer got the €100 cash, he gave it to me and said it was for Marymount. He paid €200 for a jersey he left without, all to do something for Marymount. And the young lad went away with a jersey he loved.
It was a great evening. I wish we'd taken a few pictures or something, but myself and the wife were flat out all night.
I'll post up the full amount raised tomorrow, but it surpassed my expectations. €700 from the four jerseys alone, plus whatever was made from the raffle and the teams paying to enter, and the people who just wanted to put money in the bucket.
