Doubt it was only €5K to quash the civil case tbh.
An unprovoked serious attack with quite a degree of viciousness all captured on video and played out in the courtroom was unlikely to lead to a mere fine no matter how much of a "pillar of society" both were going to be portrayed.
One suspects that there was more than just alcoholic drinks involved in this debacle. And why a publican, who'd surely be more au fait than most with the possible adverse affects of alcohol consumption, can use that as mitigation is a bit of a puzzler.
One of the articles mentioned 15 vodkas and Baileys. Mental stuff.
If you ever met this guy you'd struggle to have sympathy for him. He's a real "slick Rick"
